Obituary

Joanne Louise Nystrand
Joanne was born on August 16, 1933 in Seattle, WA, to Jesse and Ruth Anne Nooney.  She was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Nystrand, and both of her siblings, David Nooney and Jacqueline Smith.  She grew up and continued to live throughout her married life in the same neighborhood in Wedgwood, North Seattle.  At age 15, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a Billy Graham crusade.  Joanne graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1951 and then went on to work for Boeing.  She married on February 24, 1962 at Maple Leaf Baptist Church, and later stepped away from the work force to raise her only and beloved son, John.  She then worked for Seattle Public Schools in food      service at Roosevelt High School and Nathan Eckstein Middle School.  Joanne has many fond family vacation memories on Orcas Island and Camano Island.  She also loved the Cannon Beach Conference Center on the Oregon Coast and went there every summer for many years, later introducing her grandchildren to the joy and fun of CBCC.  Joanne was devoted to her family in every way and expressed her love and care with immeasurable generosity.  She loved Jesus and the people of God.  Her Bible was well-loved and always in a prominent place in her home.  All who visited her, were enthusiastically welcomed and lavished with food and attention.  She was always up for a party.  Christmas was a particularly special time in the Nystrand household and an opportunity to express her generosity, to the point that her husband called her “Mrs. Claus.”
Joanne passed away peacefully at home on December 5, 2022 and is survived by her son, John, daughter-in-law, Rachel, grandchildren, Elisha, Cassia, and Anna, and many nieces and nephews.
