Robin Miller

Obituary

Robin Dean Miller, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, cousin, musician and friend, joined his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ in heaven, Wednesday, September 25th, 2024.

He was born to Ruth, a homemaker, and Byron Miller, a teacher and Band Director, on June 28, 1941, in Centralia, Wahington.  Robin was one of 6 boys and a brother to Rolf, Norman, Bruce, Roger, and Joel. Together his parents instilled the love of music in their family.

When Robin was young, he went to music camps in the summer, and he and his brothers formed their own band for fun.  He later played in the Eugene High School Junior Symphony, and graduated from South Eugene High School in Eugene, Oregon.

Initially, he studied music and physics at the University of Oregon and while there he fell in love with Diane Smeed.  In 1966, Robin was drafted into the United States Army and had orders to go to Vietnam. By the grace of God, the Army issued new orders to report to Ft. Harrison in Indiana instead. There he played French horn in the 74th Army Band, often for the President of the United States.  In that same year, Robin and Diane were married and started their life in Indiana. They welcomed Gregory Rob in 1970, and Robin graduated from Purdue University as an Electrical Engineer in 1972.

Taking a job with Boeing brought the Millers to the Pacific Northwest and they settled in Renton, WA.  They completed their family when they welcomed their daughter, Stephanie Diane, in 1973.  Robin worked as an Electrical Engineer for Boeing Aerospace in Kent, WA for 25 years.

In addition to being a skilled engineer, Robin was a loving, caring, compassionate Christian family man, accomplished musician, pilot, and friend. For many years he attended the Men’s Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) group to study God’s Word. This helped him deepen his faith. He enjoyed playing his French horn at church to honor the Lord.

Robin was a founding member of the Northwest Mahler Festival in Seattle and played in the Seattle Philharmonic Symphony for 25 years.  As time allowed, he played at weddings, University of Washington graduations, in The Jet City Brass, Seattle Gilbert & Sullivan productions, Breath of Air, the Greenwood Band, the Rainier Symphony, as well as other groups.

Robin is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Diane Miller, his children, Greg Miller, Stephanie (David) Lewis, 8 grandchildren: Sharayah (Nathan) Lewis, Shad (Christiana) Lewis, Clara Lewis, Madison (Kyle) Davis, and Rebecca Lewis.

He was loved so much and will be dearly missed, though he will live on in our hearts. Thank you for being a part of his life.

The Celebration of Robin’s Life will be at The Chapel of the Resurrection in Bothell, WA on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at 2:00pm with a reception following. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tunnels to Towers dear to Robin’s heart, or to Samaritan’s Purse, Hurricane Disaster Relief.

If you are unable to attend, there will be a Livestream link available on The Chapel of the Resurrection website, as well as a recording for later viewing.
