Dr. Taiyong David Chung

Obituary

Dr. Taiyong David Chung, age 89, passed away on December 12th, 2024 in Kirkland, WA. He was born on September 6th, 1935 to parents Man Cho Chung and Seung Mae Kim.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Hyun Sook Chung, and his 3 daughters; Esther Soae Chung, Ruth Seungae Chung and Sarah Ihnae North. Other loving family members include his grandchildren; Louisa Bagot, John Bagot and Abigail North. He is also survived by his sisters; HiKyung Brandt, Hiyung Chung and Hieun Lee and finally by his brother-in-law and sons-in-law; Rev John Junghyun Lee, Craig North and Tim Camp.

Dr. Chung led a full and selfless life during his time on this earth. His goal in both his professional and private lives was to help others as well as spread the word of God.

After graduating from the Catholic University of Korea School of Medicine in Seoul, South Korea, he came to the US to complete his residency in Pittsburgh, PA where he married Hyun Sook Lee in 1969. They made their way to Poplar Bluff, MO where he became a staff surgeon at the VA Hospital in 1974. He eventually opened a private practice (Chung Medical Clinic) in 1980, where he worked as a general surgeon and a general practitioner until 2003.

He was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Poplar Bluff since 1977. During his time at FUMC, he was a member of the choir and was a Wesleyan class Sunday school teacher. He also became a member of Gideon International in 1985, where he led the prison ministry program, was active in bible distribution, and acted as church speaker. He participated in more than 50 voluntary mission trips from 2001 to 2020 through Baptist Medical Missions International based in Arkansas.

A funeral service is scheduled for 4:00pm on December 16, 2024, at Chapel of the Resurrection in Bothell, WA.

    Dr. Chung was my doctor and my husband Art's doctor for many years. He was so pleasant and thoughtful. He was a dedicated servant to his patients.
