Suzanne Carroll Wood

Obituary

Suzanne Carroll Wood passed away peacefully at home with her daughter by her side on November 26th, 2022 from a nine-month battle with Pancreatic Cancer. She was born Suzanne Carroll Morey in Lebanon, Ohio on August 19th, 1937 and grew up on a farm with three sisters, Marylyn, Ruth & Elaine.

She loved the farm and farm life. Her father, a doctor, moved the family to Washington State when she was a girl, because he loved to fish & hunt and followed another doctor friend who had previously moved to Washington for the same reasons. The family settled in Burien, where her father ran a successful medical practice that Suzanne would help him with in high school. She attended Highline High School, and then went onto a private girl’s college, Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. During her second year at Stephens, her father died of a sudden heart attack that brought her and her sister, Marilyn, back to Seattle. She then attended the University of Washington to study nursing. She met and married Charles Shierk, and together they had four children. Tom, Kathleen, Charlie & Michael. They lived in Ballard and then moved to Bothell. Her first husband passed away in the late 1970’s. She would marry her second husband, Wayne Stedman, who was the most wonderful man, until he passed away in the 1980’s.

She would later finish her nursing degree from Everett Community College and work for 40 years, in many departments from labor & delivery, the psyche department, oncology and many others and touched many lives. They sent Kathleen and Michael to King’s Garden/Crista schools and attended Calvary Temple Assembly of God church for many years, it was the best of times.  She and Kathleen were lucky to go to Sweden with the church choir and the director and longtime friend, Bud Tutmarc, who made an exception to allow the 5th grader, Kathleen, to tag along. A trip of a lifetime for both of them. A longtime resident of Bothell, Washington, she loved working in her yard, and attending her weekly bible study. She was very active and involved with her church and church choir. She was the best cook ever! If you never had her Cheese Hominy, I am sorry for you, but I can get you the recipe! She loved spending time with her family and friends and loved to entertain and she made it look effortless & magical!

Two of the biggest highlights of her life were the two trips she made to the Holy Land, Israel, with her church. She would get emotional just thinking about walking on the same dirt that Jesus did and how it made the Bible come to life for her. Upon retirement, she continued her work as nurse by serving as a caregiver until the ripe age of 79.

She was preceded in death by Merle Morey (father), Elizabeth Morey Walker (mother), CJ Walker (stepfather), Charles Morey Shierk (baby son, age two), Charles James Shierk (first husband), Wayne McFadden Stedman (second husband), Marylin Sherman (older sister), Ruth Wiseman (younger sister) and Suzanne Wiseman (niece).

Suzanne is survived by her children, Tom Trapp (Jan-wife), Kathleen Morse (Stacy-husband), and Michael Shierk (Jennifer-wife), her sisters, Elaine Baskett and Carol Weed. Her 3 grandchildren, Gabriel Goncalves, Samuel Shierk and Jacob Shierk, and her beloved and VERY special kitty Dickens.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 14, 2023, 2:00 PM at the Chapel of the Resurrection Funeral Home (located on the grounds of Cedar Park Church), 16300 112th Ave NE, Bothell, WA 98011. In lieu of flowers, we would ask that you donate to the charity Kathleen started at Seattle Children’s Hospital in honor of their brother, Charles Morey Shierk.
